The 24th Birthday Project: Day One

 

God

I believe in God, the father almighty creator of heaven and earth, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit.

Belief is something I think everyone should have to get through this life. It doesn’t have to make sense to anyone else, it’s a personal thing. As long as it doesn’t bring harm to yourself or the people around you.

It’s easy to have doubts about God especially with how the world is now. It’s not so cool to be a believer in present times, come to think of it was hard too in the past. I cannot speak for everyone but I know without a doubt that God loves me deeply. It doesn’t matter the circumstances that surround me I’m sure his love is consistent and unfailing.  Every encounter, every conversation, comforts and uplifts me. I know I’m never alone and that gives me the courage to be my authentic self at all times (let me not lie, at least most of the time).

I can say my relationship with God is getting better. I pray more often and listen to gospel songs more. The words of affirmation in these songs fill me with so much light, joy, and peace that I can’t get from anywhere else. For the first time in my life as a Catholic, I fasted throughout the Lenten period (6am-12pm, 6am-1pm, 6am-6pm), excluding a few days I had to take drugs. It was wonderful trying to experience Christ’s journey to the cross. I believe God is love and that sacrificial love he displayed is beyond anything I can ever comprehend or emulate fully, I will try though.

My belief brings me peace and the courage to fight. It makes me fearless and bold. With each day I try to be better and I will continue to try.
